The National Gathering 2025

The Brief

The Council of First Nations engaged Ke. Creative Events to deliver a large-scale national gathering designed to unite Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, Native Title bodies, and regional representative organisations from across Australia.

With only eight weeks to plan, the event required comprehensive conference management, including delegate registration, sponsorship administration, travel coordination, accommodation management, venue sourcing, stakeholder communications, onsite delivery, and social event production.

The objective was to create a culturally respectful environment where delegates could collectively discuss national priorities, explore future governance models, and contribute to shaping a stronger, unified voice for First Nations communities.

The Challenge

Delivering a national event of this scale presented several unique challenges:

  • An accelerated planning timeline of just eight weeks.
  • Management of nearly 300 delegates travelling from metropolitan, regional, and remote locations across Australia.
  • Coordination of sponsorship-funded travel and accommodation for 173 delegates.
  • Multiple venue and destination changes during the planning phase before finalising Port Douglas.
  • Ensuring cultural protocols and community priorities remained central to the event experience.
  • Managing last-minute travel amendments due to family commitments, community responsibilities, and sorry business.
  • Accommodating walk-in delegates while maintaining accurate registration and attendance records.

The event required a highly flexible and responsive delivery model while maintaining a seamless delegate experience from registration through to event completion.

Ke. Creative Events provided end-to-end conference management services, including:

Social Program

The team also delivered the official Gathering Dinner, adapting quickly when weather conditions required the event to be relocated from the Poolside Gazebo to the Glade Pavilion. The transformed space created an engaging and celebratory atmosphere, ensuring the evening remained one of the conference highlights.

The Outcome

The National Gathering successfully brought together:

  • 289 attendees
  • 163 organisations
  • 173 sponsored delegates
  • Representatives from every Australian state and territory

Over three days, delegates participated in keynote presentations, regional workshops, policy discussions, cultural exchanges, and collaborative decision-making sessions.

A key outcome of the Gathering was broad support for progressing discussions around a new national representative body, alongside commitments to continue engagement within communities and regions across Australia.

The event created an important platform for dialogue, collaboration, and collective leadership while strengthening relationships between First Nations organisations nationwide.
