Curtis Stone Events – Alto Venue Showcase

Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne

When Curtis Stone Events unveiled Alto, their exclusive new venue located within the Royal Botanic Gardens, the expectation was clear: this showcase needed to capture the imagination of potential clients while reflecting the refined, produce-driven philosophy synonymous with the Curtis Stone brand.

Set against one of Melbourne’s most iconic landscapes, the event was designed to immerse guests in an experience that balanced culinary excellence with elevated styling — a seamless fusion of food, space and atmosphere. For Curtis Stone Events, this was not just a lunch, but a statement moment for their latest venue offering and their approach to premium event management Melbourne is known for.

The Challenge

Just two days prior to the showcase, Curtis Stone Events’ contracted florist unexpectedly withdrew from the project. With high-profile guests confirmed and no room to compromise on quality, Ke. Creative was engaged with just 48 hours’ notice to design and deliver a complete floral and table styling solution.

The challenge was twofold: time pressure and expectation. The florals needed to feel intentional, luxurious and fully aligned with both the venue and the Curtis Stone Events brand — not improvised or rushed. For an audience of potential clients, every detail mattered.

The Venue: Alto at the Royal Botanic Gardens

Alto itself is a striking temporary structure that feels anything but temporary. With soaring ceilings and expansive framed glass panelling, the space is flooded with natural light from all angles, creating a powerful sense of openness and connection to the surrounding gardens.

Inspired by mid-century modernist architecture, Alto celebrates simplicity, proportion and scale. Clean lines, generous volume and transparency define the space, allowing the landscape to become part of the interior experience. While contemporary in design, it carries a timeless quality — one that demands styling with confidence and restraint.

For us, the opportunity lay in complementing the architecture rather than competing with it. The florals needed to sit comfortably within the vastness of the space, adding warmth and colour while respecting the venue’s strong visual identity.

The Brief

The creative brief was bold and clear: punchy pink with a native orange twist.

The styling needed to:

  • Enhance the modern elegance of Alto

  • Reflect the natural surrounds of the Royal Botanic Gardens

  • Create strong visual impact along a long communal dining table

  • Feel fresh, energetic and contemporary

  • Elevate the guest experience without overshadowing the food

As Melbourne stylists experienced in high-end events, our focus was on balance — vibrancy without excess, structure without stiffness.

Our Approach

With limited lead time, our team moved swiftly into concept development and sourcing, drawing on trusted suppliers and local flower markets to secure the freshest seasonal blooms available.

We designed two alternating floral colour stories to run the length of the long lunch table, creating rhythm, contrast and visual interest throughout the space.

The first palette explored layered tones of pink, featuring roses, anthuriums and oriental lilies. These were paired with lush monstera leaves and softened with subtle white blooms to add depth, texture and a sense of movement.

The second palette introduced a vivid native orange story, incorporating bold Australian florals and warm-toned roses. This native element grounded the styling in place, subtly echoing the surrounding gardens while adding warmth and energy to the table.

By alternating these arrangements down the centre of the table, we created two distinct yet harmonious narratives — a beautifully curated contrast that encouraged the eye to travel the length of the room.

The Outcome

The result was a dining environment that felt energetic, elevated and unmistakably Curtis Stone.

Against Alto’s glass-lined structure and soaring ceiling, the florals brought colour and intimacy to the space, softening its scale while enhancing its architectural drama. The table styling became a central visual feature, framing the culinary experience rather than distracting from it.

Guests experienced Curtis Stone’s food within a setting that felt generous, welcoming and considered — an environment designed to foster conversation, connection and lasting impressions.

Despite the tight turnaround, the final result felt confident and cohesive, a testament to clear creative direction and decisive collaboration.

Collaboration & Impact

Working closely with the Curtis Stone Events team allowed for quick decision-making and alignment under pressure. Together, we delivered a showcase that reflected the calibre of their brand and the versatility of the Alto venue.

For attendees — many of whom were evaluating the space for future events — the experience demonstrated what thoughtful styling and strong event management Melbourne professionals can achieve when venue, food and design are aligned.

As trusted Melbourne stylists, we understand that styling is not simply decorative — it shapes how a space is experienced and remembered.

The Takeaway

This project was a powerful reminder that great events are built on adaptability, collaboration and attention to detail — especially when circumstances change.

We loved bringing Alto to life for Curtis Stone Events and are proud to have played a role in the launch of such a remarkable venue. We look forward to collaborating again soon.
